WHILE “DIRTYBUZZ” IS ONE OF the least listened-to songs I released, it’s also one of my favorites.

It was my first venture into something outside of 128bpm house music. In a way it was dubstep, but also very different from that.

The drop [0:53] is heavily inspired by Rage Against The Machine. It was actually a guitar riff I wrote in high school that I translated into electronic form. I wanted to make a big, epic song like “Killing In The Name” or “Wake Up.” So I tried to do it on my laptop, without a band.

PEOPLE TOLD ME BACK THEN then that “Dirtybuzz” convinced them that I wasn’t just throwing dance loops together, but making music that was real and artful.

So even if no one ever listens to it, I’m still proud of it, and it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve made. That’s the nice thing about making stuff. No one has to like it but you.

THE ARTWORK WAS A VARIATION of Banksy’s famous “Love Is In The Air”, modified to be throwing headphones instead of flowers.
